Astute readers of Medical Product Outsourcing will notice that this year’s report on the top IVD manufacturers is different. Usually, this feature is part of the comprehensive issue on the top medical device and IVD companies, but this year the IVD section is on its own. Our report on medical device manufacturers will appear in the July/August issue.

The Top IVD Companies report still provides the same great overview of the largest players in the IVD market and more. In fact, we’ve expanded the list to include the top 15 global diagnostics manufacturers, which means a broader look at the market and the companies that dominate it. You’ll find information about each company’s businesses, its top executives, critical developments that have unfolded in the past year and other pertinent news.

One trend readers will certainly notice is that the big seem to get bigger. Many of the leading diagnostics companies reported strong growth in 2004 and the early part of this year. This indicates that the industry remains healthy, buoyed certainly by the expanding healthcare market and numerous acquisitions.

MPO ranks the companies based on sales from their latest completed year, whether fiscal or calendar, and only for the diagnostic portion, although the results from some immaterial peripheral businesses may be included. Also, we indicate the total revenues for the company as a whole. The listing of key executive, number of employees and worldwide headquarters reflect that of the parent company.
